Ecstatic Chant and Devotional Singing with Deva Premal and Miten

Thursday February 9 –Sunday February 12, 2012

Ballina Beach Village Resort, South Ballina, NSW

Deva Premal and Miten, and Nepali flautist Manose, offer a further opportunity to experience the joy and blissful healing power of sacred song and chant in a long weekend by the beautiful Pacific Ocean.

Throughout the ages every culture, tradition and religion has one common thread: the power of song. The singing voice is our most potent healing instrument…and yet in these days of radio, television and recorded music, it lays dormant. When was the last time you really opened your voice in joy and sang from your heart to the open sky and the stars?

It’s almost like having limbs and not using them. Many people have the idea that they can’t sing – an idea usually implanted at the most sensitive time of our lives – childhood. The result is an unconscious resistance to one of our most natural resources – making music ourselves. And what more beautiful way to make music than to sing our own song?

Kirtans with Dave Springer in Australia

Various venues and dates throughout March

David is  thrilled to be returning to Australia soon, and grateful to be a part of the rapid expansion of the Australian kirtan scene. This year his itinerary spans the entire month of March, and includes stops in Ipswich, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Bellingen, Port MacQuarie, Newcastle, Gosford, Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide and Melbourne. The tour will also feature a four day residential music retreat at Govinda Valley in New South Wales. He calls it Kirtan Flight School. This year will be the first time he is teaching Kirtan Flight School in Australia, and I’m delighted to hear that registrations are coming in at a fast clip.  People in Europe and America have told him repeatedly that the Flight School is the one of the most powerful retreats they have ever attended. Who knew that putting instruments in people’s hands, organizing them into bands, and coaching them through the process of leading and playing for kirtan would be so personally transformative?
